


Sri Lanka, known as the pearl of the Indian Ocean, celebrated its National Pavilion Day today. Traditional folk dances, music and other cultural heritage were presented on stages.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said the Expo Shanghai attracted people all over the world, and his country paid great attention to the event. It was among the first countries to confirm participation.
Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng congratulated the national day of Sri Lanka Pavilion. He highly praised the display of the pavilion where visitors could experience a fresh sight on its history, culture and traditions.
The 2,000-square-meter pavilion in Zone A is themed “Tradition to Modernity.” Its ceiling is colored with traditional batik craft and the walls are decorated with flags from the land of tea and spices.
Five distinctive cities are showcased in an innovative and artistic way to review their history and transition to modern urban life.
