Micronesia celebrates Pavilion Day

Micronesia celebrated its National Pavilion Day with song and dance today at Expo Center.

Micronesian Vice President Alik l.Alik thanked China's support to Micronesia's participation in Expo 2010. Micronesia has been in diplomatic ties with China for 21 years and the ties have been improving steadily, he said.

He said that the two sides have expanded mutual understanding, trust and cooperation in fields such as trade, agriculture, culture and education.

He also pointed out that Micronesia fully agrees with Expo 2010's theme "Better City, Better Life" and he wished more visitors will come to Pacific Pavilion to have a taste of the islands' culture, and its peaceful, free social atmosphere.

Shanghai Vice Mayor Tu Guangshao said that Micronesia was a good friend and partner of China in Pacific region.

The country has amazing natural wonders, unique society and hospitable people, Tu said.

The pavilion has exhibited the islands' unique natural scenery, abundant culture heritage and sustainable way of life focusing on the harmony of human and nature, said Tu. The visitors will enjoy traditional singing and dancing as well as experience the local culture and tradition at the pavilion, Tu added.

During the ceremony, artists from the Pacific country performed traditional singing and dancing including a dance with bamboo sticks, which attracted applauses from the audience.

Micronesia Ambassador to China H.E.Akillino Susaia and the country's Commissioner General to Expo 2010 Marion Henry also attended the ceremony.

Micronesia Pavilion is in Pacific Pavilion in Zone B. Its theme is “Pacific — an Inspiration to Cities.” The Pacific Pavilion showcases the beauty of the Pacific Ocean countries, their unique culture and relaxed lifestyle. But it also expresses the concern over the threat of rising waters and global warming.
