Mauritania celebrated its Pavilion Day today.
Mauritania and China established diplomatic relationship on July 19, 1965, so today's Pavilion Day marks the occasion, Bamba Ould Daramane, Minister of Commerce, Crafts and Tourism of Mauritania, said at this morning's ceremony at the Expo Center.
He hoped the friendship between the two nations would be further expanded and welcomed people to the Mauritania Pavilion.
Fu Shuangjian, deputy director of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China, said China values its friendship with Mauritania and is willing to develop and promote their cooperation in various fields.
Mauritania adopts the striking theme "Paradox Between Ancient and Modern Cities of Mauritania."
The Atlantic coastal nation known for its Berber culture exhibits ancient desert cities with traditional culture and lifestyle and the modern city of Nouakchott on the coast.
The pavilion features three sections, "Footprints of the Ancient City," "City Impression" and "Urban Wisdom."
Buildings from ancient desert cities are recreated; many of them lie beneath modern cities. Exhibitions explain the ancient history and culture of Mauritania and explain how desert cities thrived and why they disappeared.
The area "City Impression" is devoted to Nouakchott as a modern developing city, which seeks to preserve tradition as it advances.
Urban development problems, like overpopulation, are discussed. "Urban Wisdom" describes some of Mauritania's solutions to urban problems.
