Jiayuguan Gliding Base, ranking the third largest gliding base in the world, is a comprehensive aviation club where the main business is gliding. Every July, an international gliding festival is held there.
It covers an area of about 100 mu (mu is measurement unit of area in Chinese; one mu is equal to 67 square meters), is the third largest gliding base in the world (the first two largest bases are in Australia and South Africa). It is an ideal place for gliding lover to carry out different activities. Now it has 8 gliders and other favorable conditions for gliding. For general tourists, they can ride in the glider flown by good glider pilots, fly in the blue sky at their wish, and enjoy the mysterious views in the Gobi desert and the spectacular views of the snow Qilian Mountain. Sometimes, gliding competition or rally is organized in this base.
