Football Club Barcelona from Spain presented its jersey with signatures from all the team members to the Beijing Pavilion staff at the Barcelona Pavilion in the Urban Best Practice Area of zone E at the Expo Site yesterday.
Josep M. Bartomeu i Floreta, the first Vice President of FC Barcelona, visited the Barcelona Pavilion with a delegation of the club’s officials. The director of the Barcelona Pavilion warmly welcomed them, and showed them around the Barcelona Pavilion as well as the Beijing Pavilion, which is themed “Olympic Village.”
After i Floreta presented a Barcelona team jersey, the Beijing Pavilion also gave them an Olympic Village’s jersey as a return gift.
He said that since FC Barcelona was founded in 1899, it has made great achievements with numerous awards. Now the club has 250 million fans around the world, he said, adding that the club invested heavily in training youngsters.
“We train kids to be our team’s potential members. Now 65 percent of our team members are from our academy. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Spain won the championship. Eight members of that team are from the Barcelona team,” said i Floreta.
The Barcelona team is scheduled to play a friendly match with Beijing Guoan team tomorrow night at Beijing National Stadium.
