Brazil is encouraging visitors to vote for the Amazon and the Iguazu Falls, two finalists of the "New 7 Wonders of Nature," by launching a campaign at the Expo site today.
Visitors to the pavilion will be able to view the breath-taking sceneries of the Amazon River and the Iguazu Falls on screens.
Bernard Weber, the founder and president of New7Wonders Foundation, suggested the pavilion to set up two computers for visitors to cast votes for the two finalists, during the promotional campaign at the pavilion this morning.
Weber is promoting the voting campaign at the Expo site for about 10 countries which have candidates at "New 7 Wonders of Nature". He hoped to raise visitors' awareness on protecting the nature and these natural miracles.
The global online campaign is in its final phase as 28 finalists have been selected. The finalists include the Dead Sea, the Maldives, the Amazon River, Angel Falls, the Galapagos Islands, the Grand Canyon and Halong Bay.
The Amazon Rainforest is located within nine nations. It represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests and comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest in the world. The River Amazon is the largest river in the world with a total river flow greater than the next 10 largest rivers combined. It has the largest drainage basin in the world, accounting for approximately one-fifth of the world's total river flow.
The Iguazu Falls consists of 275 falls along 2.7 kilometers of the Iguazu River. It is located on the border of the Brazilian state of Parana and the Argentine province of Misiones. The word Iguazu means "big water" in the Tupi-Guarani language.
The competition was launched in 2007 by Bernard Weber. The winners will be revealed on November 11, 2011. An estimated 1 billion votes are expected.
