Baoding Overview

Baoding City is a medium-sized industrial city in Hebei province near the coast. It is about 150 kilometers from Beijing and east of the Taihang Mountains. It is in the western part of the Jizhong Plain. About a million people live in the urban area, and about 11 million people live in the area under its government's jurisdiction in outlying suburbs, towns, and villages. It is halfway between Beijing and Shijiazhuang. Baoding's central district is about 125 kilometers (78 miles) away from Shijiazhuang that is the capital city of Hebei Province. So it takes less than two hours to drive there. The total area of Baoding is 22,000 square kilometers (8,500 square miles). It has one national 6A scenic spot, six 4A scenic spots, two world geoparks, three national geoparks, four national forest parks, one national key scenic spot and 15 historical sites designated as nationally important by the Chinese government.

The West Mausoleums of the Qing Dynasty is the mausoleum area of four emperors including Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty. Emperor Yongzheng wanted to be buried there. He died in 1735, and his tomb was finished in 1737. After that, three other emperors of that dynasty were also buried there including that of Emperor Guangxu in 1908. There are 14 mausoleums altogether including the Tai Ling of Emperor Yongzheng, the Chang Ling of Emperor Jiaqing, the Mu Ling of Emperor Daoguang, and the Chong Ling of Emperor Guangxu. Besides them, there are 3 mausoleums for the queens, and some other mausoleums for princesses and concubines. The scenery here is beautiful with a clean and quiet environment. Ancient pines and cypresses make this place beautiful.

Ancient Lotus Lake Garden was first built in the early years of the Yuan Dynasty (1277 A.D.). It used to be called Xiang Xue Garden (Fragrant Snow Garden). The main part of the garden is the lake. Some small and exquisite pavilions are built around the lake. The pavilions seem delicate and elegant with the ancient designs. The main attractions are Chu Wu Po, Shui Dong Building, Guan Lan Pavilion, Zhuo Jin Pavilion, Jun Zi Chang Sheng House, Xiao Penglai, Gao Fen Pavilion and some others.
